March 2008 – Object Writing –
It’s still very much winter here. I do hear
a lot of complaining about the weather, but I confess I understand it, but don’t
share their distaste for it. I love the snow and the cold. There is nothing like
cuddling up in the living room with my husband and Alaskan Malamute Kodiak (who
shares my love of snow) as the frozen world glistens in the moonlight in our
backyard. Or bundling up for a soulfully quiet walk under the stars late at
night when everyone is inside. I can’t forget the many, many cups of Starbucks
hot chocolate. It could also be that my birthday falls in March (which I think
should be celebrated like a national holiday). So to celebrate the three of us
spent the weekend in Manchester Village, Vermont. We were blessed to spend our
time at a beautiful Bed and Breakfast tucked into breathtaking views of the
mountains and countryside.
Enough about me - onto the songwriting. Ok, if you are a writer and find yourself in a drought period looking for something to write about, check out the Object Writing Forum. Object writing is a process of writing introduced by Pat Pattison) using your sense bound faculties. Once you try it you’ll never find yourself staring at an empty page again. The website was started by fellow object writers looking to build a community where people from all over the world could share their writing and continue to build on their craft and network.
What else? This month I’ve been trying to get out from behind the internet and meet new people. I had the very nice pleasure of meeting Lori McKenna at the Iron Horse this month. A fellow Massachusettsian, she put on such a great show. She is a talented and wonderful songwriter who is well on her way in the music world and someone to watch. She was very kind to chat for a short bit with me after the show about writing. So a shout out to Lori - I appreciate your music, talent and time.
